Snow Forecast For Early This Week:

Well for those wanting lots of snow the story has changed since Wednesday.  The system according to the current model forecasts are putting the area of low pressure to the far east.  What does this mean for us?  Well when a system moves too far east we see less precipitation.  Now right now looks like most areas will see rain on Monday, then there will be a change over to snow depending on location and temperature change.  Now this does not rule out the possibility of travel issues as we go into Monday Night and Tuesday.  So as always keep it here at ETWeather Blog for the latest on this developing weather situation.

Winter Weather Update:

Current:

We do have some light snow showers or flurries showing up on radar this afternoon.  Expect that to continue through the afternoon and temperatures will continue to stay in the mid to upper 20s.

Winter Weather Special:

This morning at 8:30 AM

Yesterday at 10 AM

Short Term:

Good morning, take it easy as you start your drive to work this morning as we do have some slick roads to begin the day.  There will could be some improvement through the day, but many of the back roads will be hard to deal with since temperatures will stay in the upper 20s to lower 30s.  We are also seeing some snow showers this morning in some parts of of the area.  These snow showers are causing problems on the roadways where they are falling since the temperatures are in the lower 20s.  Just remember to take it slow as you travel to work this morning and with most schools closed there will be less traffic as you make your way to work.  Keep it here at ETWeather Blog for the latest information on this winter weather system.

School Closings:

Monday, January 19, 2009

Winter Weather Special:

Short Term:

Starting the day on Tuesday will be interesting for some as temperatures drop into the lower 20s tonight. The possibility of black ice will be increased and everyone will need to take it easy on the roadways. The areas that are less traveled will be the most likely to see dangerous conditions. The worst type of conditions will be the black ice due to the ice not being visible. Right now there are also still some snow showers across the area mainly south of Knoxville. Here at ETWeather Blog in Northern Sevier county are still seeing some light snow showers and flurries.

Maybe Some More....

There might be some more weather moving into the area be tomorrow afternoon. This should be considerably light compared to the activity we saw most of the day today. Temperatures tomorrow will be cold with highs in the lower 30s.

Winter Weather Special Update:

Light Snow here at ETWeather at 10:10 AM

Short Term:

The snow has arrived to most areas at this time.  We will continue to see some flurries and light snow showers this morning through this afternoon.  TDOT map is showing some areas may have some patchy ice as you go north of Knoxville.  Right now most areas are still slightly above freezing and should see most of the snow melt once it hits the roadways.  Keep it here at ETWeather Blog for the latest on this winter weather system.

Winter Weather Special:

Short Term:

Well snow is slow to develop across the region this morning, but we still have some moisture to the northwest moving this direction.  Some areas have seen some light snow and flurries this morning especially in the Tri-Cities area.  We should see more snow or mix of snow and rain move through the area as we go into the late morning and early afternoon hours.  Right now with most areas above freezing we should not see any issues on the roadways.  As always keep it here at ETWeather this morning for the latest on this winter weather activity.

Winter Weather Special:

Short Term:

Looks like a good chance for some snow activity as we start the day on Monday.  So parts of the region north and east of Knoxville will have the best chance for accumulations.  That will also include the mountains to the south of Knoxville.  Most areas will see a inch or less and some could see as much as 2-4 inches.  Right now most of the we do see some snow maybe mixed with rain already moving through parts of Northeast Tennessee.  You can always check the crawler at the top of the page for the latest advisories on this system.  You can also visit TDOT's map for the latest road conditions across the area.

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Winter Weather Special:

Short Term:

This morning and overnight has been interesting for some and a bust for others.  It looks like most places this morning are above freezing, but some areas did manage to get below freezing.  Those areas did see some black ice this morning.  Here at ETWeather we stayed well above freezing all night and should not see any problems in this area.  Just remember to check the temperatures out and check the area out before leaving this morning for black ice.

More Precip????

There is the possibility of seeing more precipitation today through Tuesday night.  The best chances do appear to be today and tonight.  If temperatures fall below freezing tonight we could see some problems with black ice on Monday morning.  Keep it here at ETWeather for the latest information on this weather system.

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Winter Weather Special:

Short Term:

We have seen some light snow or flurries moving across the area.  expect that to continue through the night.  There are not accumulations expected, but if temperatures drop below freezing the light precip. could still cause some slick spots.  The winds have increased out of the south over the past hour this has caused a 4 degree rise in temperatures since 7 pm.  We should cool back down as we go through the night into the upper 20s.

Winter Weather Special:

Short Term:

Not as cold as yesterday, but not by much so far the low this morning has reached 6.3 degrees at 6:14 AM.  That is very cold and if you are getting out this morning make sure you start the car up.  Today look for a some clouds to begin to move back into the area with highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Snow Maybe....

Well folks the chance of snow does begin tonight through Tuesday night.   Chances are better tonight into Sunday night.  Some of this moisture should change to a mix as temperatures warm up during the day.  Right now there are no warning or advisories on this system, but keep it here at ETWeather for the latest.  Temperatures during this period should range from the lows in the lower to upper 20s and highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Friday, January 16, 2009

Winter Weather Special:

Coldest Air Of The Year....

Starting off the day very cold with a low of 4 degrees here at ETWeather.   We will begin to warm up today into the lower to mid 20s, but quickly cool down again tonight with lows in the single digits again.

Maybe Some Snow Showers....

By Saturday we warm back up into the mid to upper 30s.  Then Saturday night we have a slight chance of some snow showers which will continue into Sunday with some of those snow showers mixing with rain.  Then a slight chance of a snow shower on Sunday night as well.  Right now we are not expecting much in the way of accumulation, but as always keep it here at ETWeather for the latest forecast information.

Winter Weather Special Update:

Temperatures Continue To Get Colder....

Temperatures have dropped 8 degrees since 4 PM today.  Since last night at 12 AM (our high for today) temperatures have dropped 23 degrees.  Expect Temperatures to continue to drop through the night into the single digits in the valley and dropping below zero across the mountains.  If you plan to be out tonight make sure you bundle up due to the extremely cold temperatures.  Also remember to bring all pets inside for tonight and even tomorrow.

Numerous School Closings:

Due to the very cold temperatures many schools will be operating on a delay or are closed for Friday.  A complete list can be found here.

Winter Weather Speacial:

Cold Air Slow To Move In....

This morning temperatures are in the lower 20s as cold air was slower to move in.  Temperatures will still be quite cold this morning as front move through the area.  Expect highs today to only be in the 20s with some dropping temperatures as we go through the day.

The big story will be tonight's temperatures in the single digits across the valley areas and below zero across much of the higher elevations.  This combined with the wind will cause wind chills to drop way below zero across the higher elevations.  There has been a Wind Chill Advisory issued for the mountains including Blount, Sevier, and Cocke Smokey Mountains.

Also the cold continues into Friday with highs in the mid 20s, but mostly sunny skies still continue.

Friday night will be another extremely cold one with lows in the single digits in the valley to below zero across the mountains.

Another Shot Of Snow....

The snow chances have come and gone all week and we have another chance a of a weak system right now set for Sunday and Sunday night.  This activity will be light in nature at this time and will have to be monitored.

Important Notes:
  1. Remember to bring pets inside out of the weather for the next several days
  2. Also remember you will need to start your car up early to get your engines warm before going out.
  3. Remember to bundle up yourself as temperatures this low can easily cause frostbite or hypothermia after being outside for long periods of time.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Winter Weather Special:

Coldest Weather Of The Season....

The big story of the year in weather will be happening tonight through Friday night.  The lows tonight will be fairly warm compared to the rest of the nights across the valley with lows in the 20s.  The temperatures could however drop into the single digits across the higher elevations tonight.  Also expect a slight chance of some snow showers tonight and flurries in the morning on Thursday.

The extremely cold temperatures arrive for your Thursday night with lows in the single digits across the valley and the higher elevations could see lows dropping below zero.

The highs on Friday will match some of our low temperatures early this week with highs in the 20s and some of the higher elevations may only make it into the single digits.

Friday night will also be cold with lows in the teens across the valley and some single digits across the higher elevations.

Wind Chill Factors:

Across much of the area Thursday night into Friday morning wind chill values could drop in the single digits to below zero.

The highers elevation for Thursday night into Friday morning could see wind chill values as lows as 5 to 20 below zero.

Some Precip Or Not....

Short Term:

There are some scattered snow showers and/or rain showers moving east across the plateau as we go through the day that activity will start to spread across the area.  Most of the moisture we see today will be in the form of rain showers as temperatures warm up, but we can't rule out a snow shower as temperatures cool down from the passing front.

Clearing And Then Another Shot Of Precip....

Wednesday we should see mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower 40s.  As we go into Wednesday night a slight chance of snow showers creeps back into the forecast with lows in the upper teens to lower 20s.  Very cold day for Thursday with some snow showers and highs in the upper 20s.  Also expect the winds to become a factor by Thursday dropping wind chills into the upper teens.

Coldest Weather All Year....

Thursday night expect a very cold night with lows in the lower teens.  As we go into Friday expect mostly sunny skies but highs will only warming up into the mid to upper 20s.  Another cold night for Friday with lows in the lower to mid teens.  Make sure you dress warm for the next several day and if you have a outside pet make sure to make the necessary arrangements to get them indoors out of the cold.

Snow or Not????

Update:

Does look like the likely hood of any measurable snow is out for now.  The system coming in for tomorrow will likely only produce a few flurries in the morning and then a better chance of mainly rain by afternoon as we warm up into the lower 40s.  There could be some lingering moisture that could give the mountain areas and the plateau a chance of some light snow or flurries by tomorrow night.  Right now it appears that most areas will only see a few flurries and some rain showers.  As always continue to keep it here at ETWeather Blog for the latest.

Blog of Interest:

Even Colder Weather Is On The Way....

Short Term:

Started of the morning here at ETWeather at 31 degrees at 1:44 AM this morning.  Today should be fairly nice with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 40s.

Maybe Some Snow????

Tonight does look like temperatures will drop into the upper 20s with thinker cloud cover beginning to move back into the area.  Then as we go into Tuesday morning we could see some snow showers, but by the afternoon hours this should change back to rain with highs in the mid 40s.

Another Shot At Snow????

We clear out by Wednesday with mostly sunny skies.  Then a chance of snow showers comes in for Wednesday night into Thursday.  The chances of precipitation are low at this time so do not expect much, but will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.

Very Cold Air....

We could see some of the coldest air for this year that we have seen by Thursday night and Friday.  The lows for Thursday night are expected to be in the lower teens and highs Friday in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Sunday, January 11, 2009

Update....

Cold All Day....

Just a update to the forecast temperatures have stayed steady through the day and add moisture to that making for a very cold day.  There are also some patchs of drizzle and snow flurries across the region do to the high moisture values.

Cooler Weather Has Arrived....

Short Term:

A cool and mostly cloudy day with highs only making it into the lower 40s.  This morning we started at 6:40 we started out at 36 and currently at 8:30 we are at 36.

Clearing then some snow????

Well for Monday we should start to see some clearing as we go through the day, but expect clouds to come back into the region Monday night with lows in the lower 30s.  On Tuesday morning we will have a mix of rain and snow and as we warm up all this should turn to rain showers by the afternoon with highs in the lower 40s.

Another System Bringing Snow????

As we go into Wednesday night into Thursday we have a slight chance of snow showers with some very cold air.  Friday we are expecting morning lows in the teens with highs struggling to make into the lower 30s.

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Rain And Wind....

Short Term:

Current radar showing some rain moving through the area and more behind the activity we see right now.  Right now temperatures are in the lower 40s and should warm up to the lower to mid 50s.  The wind will also be a factor in some parts of the area with 20-30 mph winds above 2500 ft.  Those areas are currently under a wind advisory.

Clearing out....

Looks like nice weather from Sunday to Monday with partly to mostly clear skies.  Highs will be in the 40s and lows in the 20s.

First System Of Snow For The Week....

As we go into Monday night expect a chance of rain and snow mix and then changing to all snow as we go through the night.  The chance continues on Tuesday morning and then mixing with rain again by the afternoon.  The chances right now seem low, but we will have to monitor this system as we go through the weekend.   This system could be dangerous even with light precipitation due to the cold temperatures with lows dropping into the upper 20s Monday night.  Remember keep it here at ETWeather Blog for the latest on this developing weather situation.

Cold Start and More Rain....

Personal Weather Station Low Temperatures provided by Wunderground.com

Short Term:

A cold start this morning with temperatures in the lower to mid 20s.  Here at ETWetaher the low was 21° at 7:18 AM.  We will start to warm up through the day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 50s.

The Rain is Back....

Well rain will return as we go into Saturday with a good chance by the afternoon.  We will clear out by Sunday and Monday.

Colder and Snow....

The forecast still showing the chances of some rain and/or snow starting Monday night into Tuesday.  The we see some sun for Wednesday, then another chance of precipatation Wednesday night into Thursday.  Right now most areas should only see light precipitation if any due to the lack of moisture.  This type of system is what we refer to as a Alberta clipper which is a fast moving low pressure from Canada with just a small amount of moisture because it does not tap into the gulf.  These types of systems due make for much colder temperatures with Highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s.  As always keep it here at ETWeather for the latest on these systems as more information becomes available.

Cold Air Finally Showing Up....

Short Term:

Expect Temperatures tonight to be in the mid to upper 20s with mostly clear skies.  So as you go out in the morning expect to have to start you car and bundle up.

More Rain????

As we go into the week end expect the chances of precipitation to increase.  The best chances of rain appear to be late Friday night into Saturday.  Expect there to also be a increase in wind on Saturday as well.  Temperatures will be in the 50s for highs and 30s for lows.

Colder Air and Another Snow Chance....

It does look like the colder air will stick around next week.  We also have some light precipitation expected to affect the area as a low pressure clips the area from the north.  As this happens we will see several chances of snow and or rain from Monday night to Thursday.  This will have to be monitored throughout the week and weekend as the forecast period gets closer.  Temperatures next week will be cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s.

False Alarm....

Here is why East Tennessee weather is so hard to predict.  You can see a very good weather feature coming with colder temperatures and nothing happens.   It does look like there is some rain possibly mixed with snow, but with temperatures above freezing little to no accumulation is expected.  The advisories and warnings have been cancelled due to the slow development and lack of colder temperatures.  So expect some showers this morning and clearing as we go through the day.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Possible Snowfall....

Does look like the possibility of snowfall tonight across much of the region.  Right now this snow should be generally light, but it has prompted a winter weather advisory for several counties in East Tennessee.  In the valley areas we should see anywhere from 1-2 inches, but as you go south toward Chattanooga these amounts should be lighter.  Northeast Tennessee and The Plateau expect 1-3 inches of accumulations and the mountain areas in Blount, Sevier and Cocke could see as much as 3-6 inches.  Remember to continues to check out ETWeather tonight and tomorrow morning for the latest on this developing weather situation.
